This life-changing program can help you better manage your diabetes and create long-term changes for an improved quality of life.
If you are living with diabetes, exercise and lifestyle changes can help to reduce your symptoms, improve your wellbeing and get your condition under control. Our team have undergone accredited training in specialist physiotherapy support for diabetes, to enable us to provide the free BEAT IT program. This program is built around you, and allows you to connect with other people living with diabetes in a supportive environment.
Our expert physiotherapists aim to help you manage your diabetes independently – we don’t want you to be stuck in an expensive ongoing program.
BEAT IT at St Leonards Physiotherapy is an 8-week program that involves moderate intensity aerobic, strength and balance exercises, as well as education sessions on healthy living.
Whether you have exercised before or need some help getting started, the Beat It program will help you on your journey to a healthier and more active life. Classes start slowly and build up as fitness, strength and confidence improves.
You will start by attending an initial consultation to help us, and you, understand your diabetes, and to allow us to tailor the program to your particular requirements.
You will then take part in two exercise classes each week, in a small group of no more than 15 people, all on a similar journey to yourself.
A follow up assessment is completed at the end of the course, with progress reports sent to your GP.
The program is FREE, but you will need to enrolled through NDSS – we can help you sort that out.
Before taking part, you will need medical clearance from your doctor.
